Albania
The largest and best preserved Ottoman bridge in Albania was originally made to connect Schkoder with the cities to the north.
Begun in 1770 under the auspices of Kara Mahmud Bushati, the local Ottoman pasha, construction had to be broken into 2 phases due to the scale of the project. The first phase was the middle arc and the arc near, while the second phase completed the 108 meter long structure with the other 11 arches. Today, the bridge gives visitors to examine the region’s distinctive Ottoman architecture up close, including the different style arches, round stonework. Supporting the bridge, the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape makes for an even more picturesque view.
