Middelfart

Learn about the history of this old whaling village and stroll along the waters to breathe in the fresh Nordic air.

About

The narrowest point in the Little Belt, this quaint town is known for its position in the middle of Denmark along the strait that connects the two parts. In the medieval times, this town was known for catching harbour porpoises and whaling. In more recent years, Middelfart has become an important hub for transportation between Copenhagen and Jutland. Learn more about this rich history at Henner Friiser Hus, a restored half-timbered house that is also a museum. Here you can learn about the whaling and porpoise catching history- which is kid friendly with interactive activities, where you can even go porpoise hunting for day! Another interesting facet of this town is its history with ceramics. At CLAY museum, you learn all about ceramics from the creation to the history, as well as an opportunity to buy pieces from local artisans.
