Colombia
Surrounded by a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, this little village is the place to go to immerse yourself in Colombian ecology.
Sitting 600 meters up in the Sierra Nevadas, the little mountain village of Minca is surrounded by lush cloud forest that has been listed as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1980. The incredibly fertile soil has allowed organic coffee farms and cocoa plantations to flourish, and the dense surrounding forest is home to an incredible variety of birdlife. Depending on where your interests lie, you can head to La Victoria to tour one of Colombia’s oldest coffee farms, or learn about some of the finest cacao in the world. A few farms, like the El Paraiso de Tuki B&B Cafe y Cacao Farm even grow both coffee and cacao. Of course, you could just set out into the cloud forest to try to spot some of the rare species that call the area home as you make your way to the picturesque Marinka waterfalls. If you’d like to experience all of these, we’d recommend extending your stop by 2 hours per activity.
