Peru
This easily-accessible viewpoint offers jaw-dropping views of a grand canyon and the soaring Andes.
The Mirador de Huancas offers stupendous views of one of the geological jewels of northern Peru: SoncheCanyon. Stretching for 11 kilometers and reaching a depth of 962 meters, the Sonche Canyon is undeniably grand, especially when you’re gazing out over its precipice to the river far below and souring Andes beyond. While this viewpoint is the main sight in the little village of Huancas, it’s worth talking a walk around town, especially if you’re interested in pottery - the women here have been making it the same way since pre-Columbian times. Dedicated nature lovers can alternatively take the hour hike up Huanca Urco hill which offers a view of the confluence of the Sonche, Vitaya, and Utcubamba Rivers, and a number of waterfalls.
