New Zealand
This pleasant walk offers stunning views of the Earl Mountains, made doubly delightful by their reflections in a series of small lakes.
The Mirror Lakes are a reminder from long ago when the Eglinton River shifted its course, leaving behind two river bends in the form of these ‘oxbow’ lakes. Lying at the foot of the Earl Mountains, photographers flock here in search of the perfect reflection shot where you’d struggle to tell which way is up. These wetlands also attract a variety of wildlife, including the scaup, New Zealand’s smallest duck. On a pleasant walk through native forest you’ll be treated to both amazing panoramas and brilliant birding. Most photographers agree the best time to visit is early in the morning when the light is best for reflections.
