Mogote Sand Dunes

The Mogote Sand Dunes are a desert surrounded by the ocean, with the Sea of Cortez on one side and Bay of La Paz on the other. These rolling hills of sand lead right to the water, so you can hike the desert trail, seeking wildlife like roadrunners, lizards, hares, cardinals, and ospreys and take a dip in the sea to cool off. The dunes are a popular destination for sandboarding, so you can watch the action while taking in the fantastic views (unfortunately there is nowhere on site to rent boards). If you’re lucky, along with excited tourists, you might hear the dunes “sing” - a phenomenon that has captivated explorers since the days of Marco Polo.
