The Mount of Beatitudes is believed to be where Jesus delivered one of the best known speeches of all time: the Sermon on the Mount. In the 4th century a Byzantine church was built on the hillside, and it’s still possible to see the remains of a cistern and monastery. The current hilltop church was built in 1937, and hosted Pope John Paul II when he held Mass at the site in March, 2000. Surrounding the chapel are lush gardens where visitors can find inner peace regardless of your religious affiliation.
