Moussa Castle

This castle represents an extraordinary feat of one man's lifelong dream and dedication, standing proudly between Deir el Qamar and Beit ed-Dine in Lebanon.

About

Moussa Castle was built by one man, Moussa Abdel Karim Al Maamari, and first opened its doors to the public in 1969. Born from Moussa's childhood imagination, the castle's construction commenced in 1968, transforming it into a modern structure resembling a medieval fortress. Moussa's dedication saw him move over 6,000 massive rocks to the castle site, some weighing up to 150 kilograms, which took a toll on his health. Despite facing challenges, he laid the castle's foundation stone in 1962, with his wife's assistance. The exceptional castle houses a wax museum showcasing scenes from the daily life of Lebanon's mountainous regions. Today, thousands of visitors flock to Moussa Castle each year, generating significant income for its creator and his family, with an entrance fee of 30,000 Lebanese Lire (US$10).
