Latvia
Step into the fantastic life of the man who’s become the literal definition of a storyteller.
In the second half of the 18th century, the heavily embellished exploits of Karl Friedrich Hieronymus von Munchhausen made him a celebrity among German aristocrats, and inspired the famous fictional character who has everything from museums to a cognitive disorder named after him. In the home where the real Munchhausen and his wife spent the happiest days of their lives, visitors will find a museum dedicated to the life of the legendary storyteller. Here the baron’s possession showcase the different chapters of his life - from his time as Prince Anton Ulrich’s page in the Ukrainian steppe and Russian court, as an army officer, a loving husband, a passionate hunter, and of course, an enthusiastic storyteller. On the first floor, Latvia’s largest wax museum introduces visitors to some of the biggest names in the country’s history, from ex-president Kārlis Ulmanis to basketball star Uļjana Semjonova.
