This vibrant mural traces the history of life on Earth on a hillside in the UNESCO-listed Viñales Valley.
The Mural de la Prehistoria is the brainchild of the former Director of Mapping at the Cuban Academy of Sciences, Leovigildo González Morillo. A student of renowned Mexican artist Diego Rivera, the mural spans 120 m, depicting early mollusks and other ancient sea-organisms, dinosaurs, and giant human figures in a vibrant, cave-painting-like style. While some consider the mural an overhyped eyesore, it’s still worth appreciating for the scale, and the four years 20 local farmers spent working on it. Or at the very least, you can enjoy the view of the lush, UNESCO-listed Viñales Valley.
