Museo Ex-hacienda El Sauz

This site stands as a testament to the rich cultural and historical heritage of the indigenous peoples and serves as a vivid memory of the intense battles these ethnic groups endured.

About

The Museo Ex-Hacienda El Sauz, formerly known as the Museo de la Apachería, is a captivating tourist destination located within the historic Ex Hacienda de El Sauz. The project came to fruition after a peace treaty was signed with the Apache tribe in 2000. Following approval from the Apache tribe in Ruidoso, New Mexico, the museum was established, serving to pardon the hacienda's owners and further the consolidation of this historical institution. Visitors to the Museo Ex-Hacienda El Sauz can explore its extensive collection, which includes 50 arrowheads donated by historian Javier Ortega Urquidi, a renowned specialist in Apachería. The museum's rooms feature projections of key historical events that unfolded at this site, shedding light on the Spanish-Apache conflicts that once defined these lands, as well as the remarkable history of the Apache leader Gerónimo. The entrance to this museum is entirely free, and opening hours are 10AM to 4PM, Wednesday to Sunday.
