Bulgaria
This unusual regional museum preserves rare military equipment and the memories of the locals who fought in the wars of the 20th century.
Opened in 2013 on the site of an old barracks, the "Museum of battle glory" was the first regional museum in the country with a specialized focus. Half of the museum is dedicated to the tools of war, where a large collection of Panzer IV tanks, the Jagdpanzer L 48 self-propelled anti-tank gun, of which only six remain in the world, as well as aircraft are on display. Two of the museum’s halls are dedicated to the region’s soldiers who participated in the Balkan Wars, and both World Wars. Here, personal belongings, medals and decorations, and armaments give insight into the region and nation’s military history. One of the gems of the collection is the Mannlicher rifle given to the museum by the Minister of Defense of Bulgaria, General Anyu Angelov.
