Slovakia
This open air museum lets visitors walk through Slovakia’s pastoral past.
Over 50 folk buildings from around Orava were collected, moved, and restored to preserve Slovakia’s traditional way of life. The Museum is divided into five sections to represent the distinct regions of Orava. The Market Place of the Lower Orava exemplifies the affluent side of the region, with large, relatively ostentatious houses. The Mill near the brook, includes a water mill, sawmill and fulling mill. The Lane of the Zamagurie Region is structured like a typical Oravan village, with houses and farmsteads successful. The Goral Settlement represents the poorest part of Orava, found on the south-eastern slopes of the Oravské Beskydy mountains. The pride of the museum is the 15th century, Late-Gothic wooden church from Zábrež. To complete the experience, stop by the restaurant for some halušky, Slovakia’s traditional national dish!
