Discover the dangers faced by intrepid early explorers aboard meticulous recreations of their ships.
The Nao Victoria Museum opened in 2011 with a full-size replica of Ferdinand Magellan’s Nao Victoria carrack, the first ship to circumnavigate the Earth. But over the years, it has expanded its recreation repertoire and now also includes a replica of the tiny lifeboat that saved Ernest Shackleton and his team when they were shipwrecked in Antarctica, Charles Darwin’s HMS Beagle, and the Ancud, a schooner which claimed the claimed the Strait of Magellan for Chile. Aboard each craft, you’ll find insightful static and dynamic displays detailing the hardships faced by these pioneering sailors as they navigated the dangerous waters at the end of the world. Included among these are historic weapons and nautical necessities, and recreations of exploration related documents. Please note: 4000CLP entry fee is not included.
