Built in the 15th century, the oldest church in Arbanassi has earned a special place in Bulgarian history. Built in the 15th century, over the next few centuries nearly every inch of the interior was covered in paintings and frescoes, making the humble edifice a treasure trove of art. Dating back to the 17th century, visitors can enjoy vibrant scenes from the old and new testaments, including the life of Christ, the virtues of the Virgin Mary, and a frieze of Greek philosophers. Perhaps most important is the 'Wheel of Life', which is the earliest known depiction in Bulgaria.
