Take refuge in nature and explore the forested grasslands of Mombasa’s coastal wildlife escape.
Wildlife, walking and endless wonder await at the Nguuni Nature Sanctuary. The sanctuary sits on rehabilitated land outside of Mombasa and is a man-made reserve that received honours from the United Nations Environmental Program for its reclamation work. It is home to hippos, antelope and, perhaps the most majestic of all, giraffes, to name just a few of the mammals residing there. Various bird species including eagles and storks can be spotted, and the sanctuary features a reptile park, crocodile pen and even a fish farm. Popular activities to enjoy here include bird watching, game drives and environmental tours with experienced and knowledgeable guides. If you visit during sunset, prepare for a truly magical experience as the setting sun blazes bright orange through the trees, illuminating the silhouettes of the giraffes and other wildlife. The birds sing harmoniously, forming the perfect soundtrack to an enchanting backdrop.
