Swaziland
More than a glass studio, this complex offers a variety of Fair Trade products by Swazi craftsmen and women.
Ngwenya Glass can trace its roots back to the 1970s, when a Swedish aid group introduced the craft to Swaziland. While the original factory ultimately failed, a dedicated fan of the little glass elephants they produced reopened the site under the supervision of one of the original Swedish-trained glass-blowers. Today, Ngwenya Glass still produces their elegant pieces by hand, using recycled glass. From the raised viewing platforms, you can see every step of the creation process. Afterwards, you can walk through the showroom and purchase your own Ngwenya glass piece. There are also other Swazi-centric shops to explore in the complex offering everything from chocolate and chili products to dresses and textiles. Afterwards, you can enjoy a meal at the cafe.
