Montenegro
This beautiful waterfall and its scenic surroundings are a charming local secret.
As the Cijevna river makes its way from Albania to the Morača river south of Podgorica, it runs through a karst-rich landscape just outside the Montenegrin capital. While the falls don’t have the magnitude of their American counterparts, the curtain of falling water is a popular place for photographs. After the cascade, the water carves its way through the karst, creating a uniquely textured landscape as smaller tributaries join the river. On the other side of the river, vineyards have kept development at bay, creating a green oasis. If you’re feeling hungry, the nearby Niagra Restaurant serves local specialties like carp. Please note: the waterfall can run dry in summer due to lower water levels.
