Japan
Discover the fascinating story of the father of Japanese whisky through a distillery tour and informative museum with the chance to sample bold whisky flavors.
The Nikka Whisky Yoichi Distillery was opened in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, fondly known as the father of Japanese whisky. Taketsuru diligently studied whisky making in Scotland. Returning to Japan he opened his distillery in Yoichi, where the climate mimics Scotland’s. Ideal climate conditions combined with a coal-fired distillation process create bold-flavored whiskies that will enlighten your taste buds. Take the distillery tour to view original distillery buildings and equipment (the tour is in Japanese but you can download an English audio guide). Explore the museum to learn about Taketsuru’s life and the distillery’s history through photos and objects. Sample some delicious whiskies to taste the unique flavors that make Nikka Whisky the world’s leading Japanese whisky brand. The distillery is open daily between 9:15 AM - 3:30 PM and is closed between December 25th - January 7th. The distillery tour must be booked in advance separately from your booking with us.
