Romania
Enjoy a pleasant walk through the gardens and traditional buildings that once belonged to one of Romania’s most famous poets and Nationalists.
Founded in 1967 after Veturia Goga donated the property to the Romanian state so that the life of her late husband, Octavian Goga, might be remembered. Goga, a political activist, was involved in Romania’s nationalist and populist movements, even serving as Prime Minister from 28 December 1937 to 10 February 1938. During his short tenure, Goga introduced a series of anti-Semitic laws and established a paramilitary wing. Today, visitors can step into Goga’s private life through the 14,310 artefacts in the museum’s collection, primarily in the fully furnished manor. Nearby Goga’s mausoleum is adorned with a vibrant mosaic depicting the Last Supper. The building where poet Ady Endre lived between 1915 and 1917 now houses an exhibition dedicated to his life and work. Visitors can also see traditional crafts in the ethnographic museum, including a fireplace with corundum tiles marked 22 IV 1864.
