Germany
Once reserved for the nobility, this beautiful palace and its gardens are now dedicated to the public.
Oldenburg palace, built in the 17th century, was regularly renovated and transformed to reflect the growing status of its residents. The home to 19th century Grand Dukes, today the historic rooms of the beautiful Baroque estate are part of the State Museum for Art and Cultural History, used to exhibit art, regional history and a few Old Master paintings. Surrounding the palace is a 16-hectare park, made in the early 19th century for Duke Peter Friedrich Ludwig. Walking through the elegant English style park, visitors will be treated to natural transitions in the landscape dotted with water features. The rhododendrons here are some of the oldest in Germany, planted around 1828. The park also has its own historic buildings, such as the Hofgärtnerhaus, and tea house.
