The Organ Pipes formed around 150 million years ago when lava welled up into a slate rock formation. Over the ages, the outer layer of slate eroded away, leaving behind this formation of basalt columns that resembles organ pipes. During the morning and at sunset, the ‘Burnt Mountain’ the russet rocks come to life with a fiery light.
