Orrido di Bellano

Named for the eerie howling noises made by the rushing water, this scenic gorge is anything but horrid.

About

Over the past 15 million years, glacial streams have eaten their way through stone, forming this deep gorge. The stone entrance was built in the 1700’s, while the nearby tower and ‘Devil’s House’ are believed to be from the early 1800s. Named for its frescoes depicting the devil, the earliest documented image of it is from 1840. Once through the threshold, an elevated walkway weaves its way through the gorge walls, culminating and a cascading waterfall, which plunges into a vibrant, blue lagoon.
