The 20 historic buildings on this sprawling estate let visitors taste of the lavish lifestyle enjoyed by the landed nobility.
Palmse Manor was built in the 17th century on the site of a medieval convent. After being set ablaze during the Great Northern War, the damaged structure was restored in the regal Baroque style in the late 18th century. Today, it’s one of the finest examples of this style in the country. Inside, visitors will find a museum fully furnished with opulent furniture, as well as displays of stately period clothing. In the estate’s many outbuildings, visitors will find an array of cultural attractions and creature comforts: the information center is in the stables, the distillery is a hotel, the steward’s residence is a guesthouse, the lakeside bathhouse is a restaurant, and the farmhands’ quarters is now a tavern. There’s also a functioning orangery and greenhouse to give visitors a taste of warmer climes.
