Pamplona

Best known for the "Running of the Bulls", this ancient city has plenty to discover outside of the world-famous fiesta.

About

Founded by Roman General Pompey in 75 BC, Pamplona prospered through the centuries, eventually establishing itself as the seat of the Kingdom of Pamplona. Today, the city’s “hamlets” have preserved its medieval origins. One of the best places to experience the city’s rich history is at the Plaza Consistorial square, which is home to the Baroque 18th century Town Hall, 13th century Gothic church, and the city’s oldest building, the 13th century Cámara de Comptos. However, the heart of the city would have to be the tree-lined castle square. Surrounded by 18th century buildings, the area is dominated by the Neo-Classical Palace of Navarre. Book a tour in advance to see the Baroque throne room, the Chapel’s altarpiece, and a portrait of King Felipe VII painted by Goya.
