Local heritage and contemporary art go hand-in-hand in this captivating exhibition space.
Pataka art + museum is a collaborative effort of the Porirua Museum and Mana Community Arts Council to showcase multiple facets of local culture. Over the years, it’s gotten a reputation for having the best exhibition of contemporary Māori and Pacific arts around. With ever-changing exhibitions, you’ll never know what you’ll find, but you can rest assured that it will be eye-opening. Alongside the exhibition, they also host workshops, demonstrations, and classes, and with an excellent cafe and peaceful Japanese garden, you’re free to get your hands dirty or relax. The shop is also well worth a visit as it only sells goods made in New Zealand, making it a great place to find unique souvenirs and gifts.
