Patsos Gorge

Immerse yourself in the Cretan wild as you clamber through this rugged gorge.

About

One of the natural highlights of central Crete, Patsos Gorge is bisected by a small river, which pools up at the end of the gorge into a small lake formed by the Potamon Dam. The rugged trail will have you traversing boulders, cliffs, and several waterfalls, with ropes and ladders assisting your climb in the most precarious sections. Since the base of the gorge is a riverbed, after heavy rains you may even need to swim across certain sections! Due to the terrain, the hike isn't recommended for people with mobility issue. But being smaller, less crowded, and more adventurous than the famous Samaria Gorge, Patsos Gorge makes for a perfect afternoon romp. Make sure to wear waterproof shoes and bring water. The gorge is easier to hike during the summer and fall when water levels are lower. In spring and winter, the hike becomes more wet and wild, which more adventurous visitors always enjoy.
