This National Natural Monument offers the unique opportunity to see bison and wild horses in Florida.
The 21,000-acre Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park is unlike anywhere else in the state. While technically a marsh, the drier uplands are a sprawling plain punctuated by hammocks of oak and pine, more like what you’d see out west. Adding to that frontier feels are wild-roaming bison and horses - something you won’t see anywhere else in Florida. On top of that, there are nearly 300 species of bird, as well as alligators, deer, and many other native animals. You’ll have your choice of eight hiking trails to explore the park’s interior and observe wildlife, and the 50-foot high observation tower offers amazing panoramic views.
