About

Housed in the former City Hall building, dating back to 1906, the Pekalongan Batik Museum is a notable destination in this small city, offering a comprehensive exploration of batik. Pekalongan is renowned for its batik, alongside Yogyakarta and Solo. Standing in the city center among other notable colonial structures, the museum features various facilities such as a batik shop, a library, seminar rooms, and even a workshop where visitors can learn about the intricate batik-making process. Browse a vast collection of batik motifs and designs spanning from the Dutch colonial era to the influence of Japan during the Second World War, featuring Hokokai Javanese motifs. With thousands of batik collections from Indonesia and beyond, the museum truly showcases the evolution of batik artistry. You can even try your hand at making a Batik yourself, such as a batik handkerchief, for as little as RP 20,000. The museum is open daily from 8AM to 3PM and the entrance fee is RP 5,000.
