Thailand
One of the most beautiful caves in Thailand, an opening in this giant cavern illuminates an intricate royal pavilion.
The Phraya Nakhon Cave consists of two main chambers. The first contains a dry waterfall, stalactites and stalagmites, and an information board to familiarize visitors with the cave’s layout. The second, and main reason for going, is a huge dome with an opening in the center that lets in sunlight. Beneath this opening, atop a small hill and surrounded by trees, stands the beautiful Kuha Karuhas pavilion, which was built in preparation for a visit by King Rama V in the 19th century. To reach the cave, visitors must first get to Laem Sala beach, which is accessible by a short boat ride, or about 30 minute walk through the forest. From here, you must take a rather steep staircase for 430 meters to reach the cave entrance, so appropriate footwear is strongly recommended! Please note: while the cave is free, there is a 200 baht fee to enter the National Park.
