Paraguay
Surrounded by lush forest, these refreshing waters will revitalize you, body and soul.
Regarded as one of the most beautiful waterfalls on the Yhaguy River, Pirareta Falls is popular with locals for swimming, and for a revitalizing natural hydromassage, courtesy of its broad waterfalls. The name Piraretâ comes from the native Guarani “pira”, meaning “fish”, and “retã”, meaning “country”. Being the first large waterfall on the Yhaguy River it is the first place that fish can not ascend further upstream. The town of Piribebuy, 16 km away, services the national park which surrounds the amazing scenery of the Yhaguy River. Please note it is a 20 minute walk from the car park to the falls. You’ll need to bring your own food and water if you stay for a while. It cost 50,000 Paraguayan Guarani, 7 EUR, to enter the area.
