At the heart of a gorgeous canyon, this serene monastery boasts beautiful art and architecture.
Accessed by a stunning cliff-side road, which winds under overhangs and tunnels, Poganovo monastery is a serene relic of the 15th century. Dedicated to St. John the Baptist, the church follows the Moravian school of architecture, but eschews any ornamentation on the facade, leaving raw stone to match the church’s beautiful surroundings. Inside, visitors will find masterful 15th century frescoes and gorgeous gilded idols. However, visitors don’t need to have any interest in history or churches to enjoy Poganovo - the trout-filled river that runs behind the church and the raw beauty of Yerma canyon make for a stunning backdrop to just sit and relax.
