Portugal
High on the cliffs of Lagos, this lighthouse offers breathtaking views of the ocean and unique rock formations.
The Ponta de Piedade lighthouse was erected between 1912 and 1913 and housed an oil lamp up until 1952 when it was replaced with electricity. You can enter the lighthouse Wednesdays between 2:00 and 5:00 PM, but the lighthouse isn't the main attraction here. The real reason to visit is the location. Perched at the edge of the cliffs in Ponta de Piedade, the site offers a spectacular panoramic view of the cliffs and surrounding ocean. Bask in the warmth of the glowing sun as you take in the beauty of the steep cliffs and beautiful rock formations that have been left behind after thousands of years of erosion. With nothing facing you but imposing cliffs and the Atlantic Ocean, you will feel as though you have found the edge of the world in Ponta de Piedade.
