Feel the ancient spirit of this unique UNESCO-recognized natural reserve.
Potrero de Yala Provincial Park is located in the Jujuy province in Yungas, subtropical mountain forests. The Park is the oldest protected area in the province, and is recognized by UNESCO for its unique cloud forest ecosystem: the dense woods are bathed in the moisture of the above-hanging clouds that drift with the wind through the lush vegetation. The Park has two lagoons, Rodeo and Comedero, that visitors can reach via trails of low and intermediate difficulty. The most adventurous visitors can try conquering Cerro Azul (Blue Hill), although the trail is of high difficulty and should be climbed with a professional mountain guide. Potrero de Yala is great for birdwatching since it is home to some endemic Yungas species, such as the red-faced guan, the lyre-tailed nightjar, or the torrent duck. Scenic Provincial Route 4 connects the Park with Termas de Reyes (Kings’ Hot Springs, which could become a perfect ending to an adventurous day.
