Put some shrimp on the barbie, go ride a bike or jump in to the gorgeous pristine tidal beach. Rabbit Island is perfect for a relaxing break.
Covered in pine plantations, biking trails and sandy beaches; Rabbit Island is the largest in a chain of Islands on the north shore. Run by the district council, the island has been practically designated as a site of leisure. Walkers, joggers and cyclists all love the natural beauty of the island and its surrounding coasts. The beach itself is also very popular, as the waters are calm and unspoiled. Cap off your exercise with a picnic or grill out, as tables and barbecues are plenty and provided. The island is also a great spot to see some wildlife. While the eponymous rabbits may be hard to spot, there are nonetheless a great deal of water birds including the white heron and the royal spoonbill. Rent a bike nearby, take a walk among the trails or just hop in the water, this island truly is a little slice of paradise!
