From towering trees, ancient forests, and even swaths of rugged coast, this UNESCO-listed landscape is as stunning as it is diverse.
Redwood National Park (and adjacent state parks), preserves one of America's most precious ecosystems. The famous California redwoods were nearly logged to extinction in the 1800s, with an estimated 90% of the original redwoods having been cut down. 45% of the remaining old-growth redwood forest is now preserved within this National Park. Reaching over 350-feet-tall and living for over 1,500 years, walking among the Coast Redwoods is an unforgettable California experience (and movie buffs will also enjoy knowing that Jurassic Park 2 was filmed among the living fossils in Fern Canyon). The ancient forest eventually peters out at the coast, where tectonic activity lifted up the very sea floor millions of years ago.
