A captain of industry’s eclectic art collection has been further expanded to become an eye-opening experience.
The Rijksmuseum Twenthe began as textile Baron Jan Bernard Van Heek’s private museum in 1927, but after donating his collection and the stately museum building to the local government, it was named a National Museum. Over the years, the museum’s collection has grown to has an impressive collection of 17th and 18th century paintings, medieval books and artefacts, and a range of modern and contemporary works. Along with the eclectic permanent collection, the museum also has temporary exhibitions, which have included Renaissance masters to select 18th century works from the Amsterdam Rijksmuseum.
