Rio Cuarto

Tind fascinating historical and cultural buildings and beautiful parks in this captivating city that's been nicknamed ‘The Empire’ from its rapid urban development.

About

The magnificent city of Rio Cuarto was a town of little note when it was founded by Governor Rafael de Sobremonte in 1786. After a railway was built in 1870, the small settlement rapidly grew into the bustling and vibrant city it is today. In the center of Rio Cuarto on the pleasant Plaza Roca, you can find the well-preserved Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, which is dominated by two iconic steeples and a conserved chapel inside. From the plaza, you can walk along to the Municipal Museum of Fine Arts to discover local art proudly on display, and then to the Regional History Museum, where the history of the city and surrounding region is showcased, featuring exhibits on indigenous people, the colonial era and modern times. Finish your visit to Rio Cuarto with a stroll around Sarmiento Park, a large and picturesque green space with a tranquil lake that is perfect for scenic sunset views.
