Rio Pilcomayo National Park

This Argentine paradise is full of serene wetlands and a spectacular variety of wildlife.

About

This national park, just south of the Paraguay-Argentinian border, is a nature-lovers paradise. Consisting of 52,000 hectares of protected grasslands, this is an area of swamps, lagoons and rivers, and contains a vast variety of fauna and flora. Amongst the animal species that can be found are howler monkeys, wolves, anaconda, watersnakes, pumas, capybaras, two species of small crocodile, and huge myriad of birds (especially wetland birds), and a wide range of fish (including piranhas). A program to protect the owl monkey is in place at this park. The park is serviced by a couple of recreational areas where toilets, BBQ grills, picnic tables, and park ranger assistance are available. These areas also have bird-watching platforms, self-guided informative paths, viewpoints and lookout towers, and the possibility of bike rides. Boating is possible only with ranger permission. Please note that you should bring drinking water and insect repellent.
