Killed on the day of his daughter's marriage that the hands of his own bodyguard, Phillip II's resting place was supposed to reflect the king's contribution to the Macedonia empire. So in 336 BC, when the murdered king was being taken to the tomb, ancient Greece experienced one of the most lavish funeral ceremonies in history with an impressive burial chamber. The king's final resting place contained an elaborate gold and ivory deathbed, and a monumental facade depicting Phillip II and Alexander the Great on a hunting trip. Today, visitors can admire this UNESCO site and its collection of ancient artefacts from ancient Macedonia.
