About

Historical Rutherglen is a quaint, old world wine-growing town. The shop facades in the heart of town have been immaculately maintained for over a century, lending an antiquated charm to the place. The town centre has a traditional pie shop, lots of country pubs and several antique shops and dealers. There are vineyards, lakes and rivers galore here, making it a great stop for some country air and a leisurely walk. In the mid-nineteenth century Rutherglen was a thriving gold-mining town, where people fled with dreams of prosper. Today, it is famous for producing wine in its 17 local wineries. A popular spot for wine enthusiasts, the region's vineyards are ready and waiting to invite guests for tastings, pairings and food. True to the town's fame, the iconic water tower that contains 72,000 gallons of water is in the shape of a giant wine bottle. It’ll be hard to miss as it stands at 36 metres tall!
