Get a unique view of the world’s highest tides in this historic city - the only metropolis on the Bay of Fundy!
Established in 1785, Saint John, NB, is the oldest incorporated city in Canada. It’s also the only city on the shore of the Bay of Fundy, where tides vary by 16 metres (52 ft)! The port is lined with 19th century buildings that have been revamped as his cafes, restaurants and breweries, offering a perfect vantage to watch the city’s famous tides. At the Saint John City Market, the oldest in Canada, you’ll find mouthwatering local fare in a massive 19th-century building (check out the ceiling while you’re there!). Or head to the interactive New Brunswick Museum to learn about the region’s history and ecology, including the popular Hall of Great Whales. And, being on the Bay of Fundy, there’s plenty of parks and nature around, but if you only visit one, make it the Fallsview or Wolastoq park so you can see the Reversing Falls Rapids, which change direction with the tide.
