San José del Cabo Estuary

Go birdwatching on a walk along the only freshwater lagoon in Cabo.

About

Right outside Cabo’s hotel zone, the San Jose del Cabo Estuary is a 125 acre nature reserve that has been treasure since before the arrival of the Spanish. The native Pericúes used it for foraging and hunting, colonists used it as a freshwater source, and now, it’s an important wetland reserve and bird-watching paradise. Dozens of bird species have been spotted here, and depending on when you visit, you might see migratory birds along with the red-tailed hawks, herons, pelicans, turkey vultures that reside here year-round. Make sure to bring some water with you as the estuary can be hot and humid!
