Founded at the end of the 16th century, San Luis is located in the foothills of the Sierras Grandes in an area known Punta de los Venados (Deer Point) part of the Sierras Grandes); hence the nickname for locals – puntanos. The historic center is still dotted with colonial buildings, which are easy to find if you start your visit at Pringles Square, named in honor of local hero Juan Pascual Pringles, who fought for Argentinian independence. The park is dominated by the Neoclassical San Luis Cathedral, and its twin bell towers serve as an easy-to-spot reference point for your explorations. There are several museums worthwhile museums, like the History Museum or Dora Ochoa de Masramón Provincial Museum, where you can learn more about the city and region. The Park of the Nations and Cenetary Park are popular destinations to seek refuge and a breath of cool air on a hot day. Gambling is legal in San Luis, and visitors can try their luck in any of the local casinos.
