San Marino

Situated on the Adriatic side of Italy, San Marino features a hilltop castle and much more as it ranks third of Europe's smallest independent states.

About

The dimensions in size are the only thing small about San Marino. This independent state boasts one of the highest GDP per capita, no national debt, and a budget surplus. But more than two million visitors a year don't flock to San Marino to enjoy its low unemployment rate; they come to view the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Monte Titano. Monte Titano stands 2,425 ft above sea level and has the most terrific fortress at one out of its three peaks. On another peak lies Guaita, with its castle and tower. The astonishing views from any of its peaks are sure to be crossed off your bucket list.
