This 15th-century marvel with a storied past has witnessed the reigns of the Vijayanagar empire, Hyder Ali, Tipu Sultan, and the British.
Perched atop the scenic Kongu Nadu hills, Sankagiri Fort is a formidable relic of the 15th century. Its 12 walls, trategically fortified by the British, make it an iconic landmark that served as a crucial military outpost for Tipu Sultan and later the British army. Its strategic location, with only one accessible side due to steep terrain, rendered it virtually impregnable. Uncover the mysteries within as you explore the well-preserved remnants of history, including a death well, granary, masjids, and temples. The fort offers a glimpse into the region's rich history, with insights into the lives of legendary warriors like Tipu Sultan and Dheeran Chinnamalai. The eerie death well adds an extra layer of intrigue to this historical treasure. Managed by the Archaeological Survey of India, Sankagiri Fort invites visitors from 8AM to 6PM. The entrance fee is Rs.25 for Indians and Rs.300 for foreigners. Photo by Gautham5210, CC BY-SA 4.0 <https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0>, via Wikimedia Commons
