Italy
While today they symbol of this charming fishing village is the swordfish, according to Homer, it was home to the legendary monster Scylla.
Scilla is an unusual combination of a rustic village and a seaside resort. The more modern Marina Grande, which runs along Scilla's pleasant beach, is the more recent development, filled with bars and restaurants catering to visitors and beach-goers. High above the town, the medieval Castello Ruffo provides stupendous views of the town below, Sicily, the Calabrian coast, and even the Aeolian Islands on a clear day. Also exhibited in the fort is the town’s last luntre, a traditional local boat used for fishing for swordfish. On the other side of the headland, visitors will find the ancient fishing settlement where colorful cottages are built right up to the waters. Named one of the ‘Most Beautiful Villages in Italy’, visitors can still get a taste of authentic Italy here, especially if the fishing fleet is returning with a fresh swordfish. The symbol of the town, fresh swordfish is naturally at the top of every restaurant menu.
