Seetha Kotuwa

Nestled amidst lush flora, babbling streams, and cascading waterfalls, this archaeological site is believed to be the place where Princess Sita was held captive by King Ravana.

About

Seetha Kotuwa, also known as Sita Mata’s Court, is an enchanting archaeological site located along Sri Lanka's Ramayana Mawatha in Hasalaka Gurulupotta within the Central Province. Descending into the misty Dumbara Valley, the drive to Seetha Kotuwa is an adventure in itself, featuring 18 hairpin bends and breathtaking scenery. According to the Ramayana, this was once the city of Lankapura, where Queen Mandothari's palace stood surrounded by waterfalls, streams, and verdant greenery. The site is shrouded in myth and legend, offering a glimpse into the era when Goddess Sita was held captive by Ravana. You can explore the ruins of Maharani Mandodari's palace, where Sita resided during her captivity. This hidden gem lies within a dense forest, and the ruins of Maharani Mandodari's palace and the river beneath can still be witnessed. Although the path to reach it is a bit steep and rough, the tranquility and natural beauty that envelops Seetha Kotuwa make the journey worthwhile.
