Malta
Senglea, also known as Città Invicta, is a fortified city located in the South Eastern Region of Malta full of natural elements and historic architecture.
Senglea was bestowed the title “Invincible City” after its successful resistance against the Ottoman invasion during the Great Siege of Malta in 1565. Despite its small size, Senglea holds a significant place in Malta’s history. On a peninsula jutting into the Grand Harbor, Senglea faces the picturesque walled city of Valletta. From the daringly hanging caper tree along the bastions to the scattered ancient fig trees, the city’s landscape reflects the fusion of the island’s gentle climate with the city itself. Looking down towards the calm waves of the harbor, the dockyard remains a vital hub of activity, pulsating with life and serving as the city's beating heart. A visit to the tip of the peninsula is a must, offering splendid views of the harbor from the renowned Gardjola, a decorated watchtower that has become an iconic symbol of Malta. Traditional boat races are held twice a year in the Grand Harbour on March 31st and September 8th, the latter date illuminating the town with hundreds of light bulbs, spectacular fireworks, and lavish decorations.
