Enjoy a serene stroll, learn about Japanese culture, and admire a world-class bonsai collection in this symbol of Sister City love.
The Shinzen Japan Garden was developed in the 1960s to honor Fresno’s Sister City Kochi, Japan as part of a larger effort to reestablish international brotherhood and promote cultural awareness following World War II. Visitors are given a slice of Japanese zen walking the quiet paths past koi-filled ponds and rustling maple trees, and over gently arching bridges. Throughout the year, the garden hosts special cultural and educational events like the Fall Festival, Spring Blossom Festival, Toro Nagashi Lantern Event. You can also join workshops and classes in aesthetic pruning, the art and culture of Japan, or take part in an educational tea ceremony in the Tea House. Shinzen is also home to the world-class Clark Bonsai Collection, is a “living museum” dedicated to the art of bonsai. For more information, please visit www.shinzenjapanesegarden.org
